With the current winter weather event the following facilities are closed. Staff will be evaluating conditions on a daily basis.

Please avoid using The Woodlands Trace. It is not plowed or treated during snow and ice events. 

The following facilities are CLOSED-
-Golden Pond Visitor Center and Golden Pond Planetarium and Observatory
-Turkey Bay OHV Area
-The Elk & Bison Prairie
-Wranglers Campground

The current fire danger Level at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is:

Fort Henry Trail is Closed from Point 1-23 and Picket Loop from tornado damage.

North/South Trail is closed from road 104 to road 110, tornado damage area. Re-route 104 to paved trace along trail, paved trail south to 110. West on 110 to Hillman Ferry Trail, south to NS connector.

Energy Lake Campground is currently accessibly by the northern entrance on road 134. The southern entrance from highway 68/80 is closed to through traffic due to a washed out culvert.

Wildlife Refuges are open March 16, 2025 – October 31, 2025.

From November 1, 2025 through March 15, 2026, seasonal wildlife refuge closures include:

• Portions of Duncan Bay, Smith Bay, and Rushing Bay on Kentucky Lake
• Fulton Bay and Honker Bay on Lake Barkley Western one-third of Energy Lake; all of Energy Lake and Bards Lake are closed to hunting; eastern two-thirds of Energy Lake and all of Bards Lake remain open to fishing.
• Duncan Lake
• Long Creek Refuge at the back of Elbow Bay
• Hematite Lake and Honker Lake closed to fishing and boating; trails open
• Refuge closures provide undisturbed resting and feeding areas for waterfowl, shorebirds, and eagles. Staff at Land Between the Lakes asks for public cooperation with refuge regulations designed to provide needed sanctuary.
