At the Golden Pond Planetarium, the night sky comes to life! And all from the comfort of our 360- degree, temperature-controlled theater with a 40-foot domed screen and surround sound.
Most shows are roughly 40 minutes in length and cover everything from astronomy to earth science-and even some seasonal offerings! See show descriptions for recommended age ranges. Laser light shows are also offered seasonally, visitors can listen to their favorite music as it dances across the planetarium.
Friends of Land Between the Lakes provides qualified interpreters who run the shows as well as “Tonight’s Sky Live,” a presentation after each show that provides a look at the night’s sky over Land Between the lakes.
The Observatory at Golden Pond lets visitors get even more up close and personal with the skies above. It hosts a Meade 16-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope as well as a telescope made for safe viewing of the sun. The Observatory is open selected Saturdays throughout the year.
During the summer, Friends of Land Between the Lakes partners with the West Kentucky Amateur Astronomers to host Star Parties, where smaller telescopes are provided for visitors to use. These are held Memorial through Labor Day weekends. While Star Parties are free to visitors, we recommend you watch the Planetarium program presented in conjunction with the event to learn more. Regular program admission cost is required.
**Please note that opening the Observatory is weather dependent. Call 270-924-2237 if the weather is questionable.
