Birding

Birding has been a popular hobby in the region long before the national recreation area existed. With its location in the middle of the Mississippi Flyway, Land Between the Lakes benefits from an extraordinary number of migratory birds annually.

From bald eagles to hummingbirds, bird watchers have opportunities to observe a variety of species all across Land Between the Lakes year-round.

Numerous hiking trails at Land Between the Lakes are famous for their birdlife to include Hematite Lake and Honker Lake Trails in the Nature Watch Demonstration Area. Staff at our Woodlands Nature Station have documented more than 250 bird species at Land Between the Lakes over the years.

Woodlands Nature Station offers guided eagle tours in January and February as well as trail and nature watch introductions year-round.
